Comparison
Tannin vs Oeni: which app for your wine cellar?
Oeni is the most widely used French mobile app: a database of over 400,000 wines, a 3D cellar, drinking windows, and cellar value, in fifteen languages. Tannin is a web app designed for cellars you really organize: racks with depth, entry by photo or by a sentence, insurance report, free with unlimited bottles. Here are the differences, point by point.
Information gathered on October 30, 2026 from the oeni.app website and the Oeni French App Store page (version 4.8.1). Offers change. Check the publisher's website before deciding.

Item by item
Five differences that matter daily.
Storage
Both apps show the cellar as a volume. Oeni places bottles slot by slot in a 3D cellar. Tannin draws each rack with its width, height, and depth: in a double-row wine fridge, it knows which bottle is in front and which is at the back, and "Show in cellar" takes you right there. If your racks have only one row, the difference is small; if they have two, it is decisive.
Data entry
Oeni relies on a database of over 400,000 wines and label scanning to retrieve the wine's page in a few seconds. Tannin has AI read the label, even for a small estate missing from databases, and accepts a sentence to manage the cellar: "I drank the Mont-Redon 2019" frees up the slot and records the removal. Oeni does not describe plain-language updates.
Value, insurance, and drinking window
Both estimate the cellar's value and update it monthly, including gains. Tannin displays the source and date of the estimate for each wine, and generates a dated PDF insurance report with photos and locations. Oeni does not describe an insurance report. For the drinking window, Oeni calculates a window per vintage; Tannin provides a drinking window per wine and sorts the cellar by aging stage, from the free version.
Price
Oeni is freemium: a free version, then Oeni Plus via in-app purchases. The App Store page lists a monthly subscription at €8.99 and annual plans from €29.99 to €79.99, with a 30-day trial. Tannin is free with unlimited bottles and no time limit. Enthusiast costs €29 incl. VAT per year, paid upfront, and adds AI, monthly valuation, and the insurance report.
Platform, languages, and data
Oeni is primarily a mobile app, in fifteen languages, featuring food and wine pairings and a built-in sommelier that Tannin does not have. Tannin runs in the browser, on desktop and phone, in French, English, and Spanish. It lets you take your data with you: Excel and CSV import, full CSV export at any time. Export is not described by Oeni.
Who it is for
Based on your cellar, not ours.
Tannin is for you if…
• your wine fridge or racks store bottles two rows deep;
• you gave up on a spreadsheet or app because data entry took too much time;
• you want an inventory and valuation ready for the insurer;
• you want to be able to export your data at any time;
• you prefer an unlimited free tool, with a simple annual subscription;
• you also work on a computer, in a large table you can sort and filter.
Oeni will suit you better if…
• you want a native mobile app with a large community;
• the wine database and critic ratings matter in your choices;
• you are looking for food and wine pairings and a built-in sommelier;
• you need an interface in a language other than French, English, or Spanish;
• your cellar is single-row and you discover wine as the mood takes you.
Switching apps
Switch from Oeni to Tannin, without re-entering data.
Three steps, and your cellar is in Tannin with its slots.
Step 1
Retrieve your list
If your app allows an Excel or CSV export, use it. Otherwise, photograph the labels of the bottles in your cellar: AI creates the records.
Step 2
Import into Tannin
Drop the file: standard columns are recognized in French, English, and Spanish. You can preview the data before confirming.
Step 3
Draw your racks
Create your racks as they are, including depth, and place your bottles. Both apps can run side by side during the transition.
FAQ
Tannin or Oeni: what people ask us.
Is Oeni free?
Partially: Oeni is freemium, and advanced features are in Oeni Plus, sold via in-app purchases with a 30-day trial. Tannin is free with unlimited bottles for all cellar management; only features using AI require the Enthusiast subscription at €29 per year incl. VAT, or can be used for free with your own API key.
Does Oeni manage bottles stored in double rows?
Oeni shows a 3D cellar slot by slot. Depth is not described on its website or on its App Store page as of October 30, 2026. Tannin models each rack by row, slot, and depth, showing whether the bottle is in the front or at the back.
Can I transfer my cellar from Oeni to Tannin?
Yes, via an Excel or CSV export if your app supports it, or by taking photos of your labels: AI fills in the details. Importing is free and unlimited.
Why compare Tannin to Oeni?
Because it is the most widely used cellar app in France, and many enthusiasts start with it. This comparison is based on what both publishers share. It is dated, and we correct it if any information is out of date.
